This is a pilot study testing whether a conversation technique called Socratic questioning—where your doctor asks thoughtful questions to help you discover your own solutions—can help you lose weight more effectively. Half of participants will work with doctors trained in this questioning method, while the other half will receive standard weight loss counseling. The study will follow you for 2 months to see which approach works better.
Many people struggle with weight loss using traditional counseling alone. This study explores whether helping people think through their own barriers and solutions—rather than just giving them advice—might lead to better and more lasting weight loss.

If you join, you'll visit your doctor four times over 2 months (on days 0, 15, 30, and 60). Each visit lasts about 10–15 minutes. Depending on which group you're in, your doctor will either use the new questioning technique to help you explore your weight loss goals, or provide standard weight loss counseling. Your doctor will measure your weight and take health information at certain visits. You'll also complete a brief screening questionnaire at the start to check that the study is safe for you.
