A New Drug for Breast Cancer That Has Spread to the Brain

This trial is testing a medication called asciminib in combination with trastuzumab (a standard breast cancer treatment) for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer that has spread to the brain. The study will first test different doses of the medication combination to find the safest dose, then enroll more patients to see how well it works. The goal is to find a new treatment option for patients whose cancer has become resistant to earlier treatments.

Brain metastases from breast cancer are very difficult to treat and cause serious complications. Once patients' cancer stops responding to standard early-line treatments, there are few effective options available. This medication works differently than current treatments and may help patients who have run out of other options.
