How weight-loss medication affects muscle and bone health

This trial is testing how tirzepatide, a newer weight-loss medication, affects your muscles and bones when you lose weight. Researchers want to understand whether losing weight with this medication causes problems like muscle loss or bone weakening—something that has raised concerns with similar drugs. You'll be randomly assigned to either take the medication with a special lifestyle program, or take the medication with standard diet and exercise guidance.

While this medication helps people lose weight and manage diabetes very effectively, doctors have noticed that weight loss itself—and this medication specifically—might cause people to lose too much muscle and bone mass, which could increase injury and disability risk. This trial will clarify exactly how much these changes occur and help doctors protect patients' overall health.
