Testing a plant-based supplement to prevent nerve damage from cancer chemotherapy

This trial is testing whether cannabidiol (CBD)—a compound derived from hemp—can help prevent nerve damage that sometimes occurs as a side effect of oxaliplatin chemotherapy in people with advanced colorectal cancer. Some patients receiving this chemotherapy experience painful tingling and numbness in their hands and feet. The study will compare patients who take the medication alongside their regular chemotherapy to patients who receive chemotherapy alone, to see if the medication reduces these nerve-related side effects.

Nerve damage from oxaliplatin chemotherapy is a common and sometimes serious side effect that can affect quality of life. Doctors don't yet have an effective way to prevent it, so researchers want to test whether this medication might help protect nerves during treatment.
