Building a database to understand rare pancreatic tumors better

Researchers are building a large database by collecting medical information from patients across multiple hospitals who have been diagnosed with solid pseudopapillary neoplasm (SPN) of the pancreas — a rare, slow-growing pancreatic tumor that mainly affects younger people. By gathering real-world data from everyday clinical care, the study aims to better understand how this tumor develops, who is most at risk, and what treatments work best. This information will help doctors make better decisions for future patients.

Although SPN is a rare pancreatic tumor with generally good outcomes, about 1 in 10 patients develop metastasis or recurrence, and doctors still have much to learn about which patients are at highest risk and how to treat them best. By collecting information from many patients across different hospitals, researchers hope to discover patterns that will improve diagnosis and care for people with this condition.
