Comparing two tooth treatments for very deep cavities

This trial is testing whether a procedure called pulpotomy—which removes the diseased part of a tooth's nerve while keeping some of it alive—works as well as a traditional root canal for teeth with extremely deep cavities. The study will be conducted by dental students under close supervision in a teaching clinic setting, and it will measure whether both treatments successfully save the tooth and relieve pain.

Recent research has shown that pulpotomy may be a promising alternative to root canal treatment, but most studies have been done in specialized dental hospitals. This trial aims to find out whether the same good results can be achieved in a regular dental school setting, which would help dentists and patients understand which treatment might be better.
