What is this trial?

This trial is testing a procedure called endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation (EUS-RFA) for treating small benign tumors in the pancreas or adrenal glands. During the procedure, doctors use an ultrasound-guided needle to apply heat energy directly to tumor cells, destroying them while protecting surrounding healthy tissue. The study will follow patients for up to 5 years to see if this treatment is safe and effective, and how it affects quality of life compared to traditional surgery.

Many patients with small hormone-producing tumors currently need surgery, which carries risks and recovery time. This trial exists to determine whether this minimally invasive needle procedure could be a safer, gentler alternative for carefully selected patients who might not be good surgical candidates or who prefer to avoid surgery.

Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

you have a confirmed small insulinoma (25 mm or smaller) diagnosed with specific blood tests and imaging
you have a non-functional pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor between 10–20 mm that is growing, or a larger tumor and you are not a candidate for surgery
you have a benign tumor on one adrenal gland confirmed by imaging and specialized blood tests
you are an adult capable of providing informed consent
you have signed informed consent agreeing to participate

You likely don't qualify if…

you have severe health conditions that make any procedure too risky (ASA score of 4 or higher)
you have uncorrected bleeding problems or very low platelet counts
you are pregnant
you have advanced cancer expected to limit your life to less than 3 years
you have narrowing or previous surgery in your upper digestive tract that would prevent passing the ultrasound scope

What participation looks like

If you qualify, you will receive the EUS-RFA procedure as part of your standard care at one of two Danish hospitals. After treatment, you will have follow-up visits including blood tests, imaging scans, and clinical check-ups at regular intervals for up to 5 years. You will also complete questionnaires about your satisfaction with the procedure and how the treatment affects your quality of life.
