Testing a new cell therapy for severe lupus that doesn't respond to standard treatment

This trial is testing ultra-fast autologous CD19-targeted CAR-T therapy for people with severe lupus that hasn't responded to standard treatments. The medication works by taking your own immune cells, genetically modifying them in the lab to recognize and attack the cells driving your lupus, and then giving them back to you. This approach is innovative because the cells can be prepared in just 10 minutes, much faster than traditional CAR-T treatments.

Current lupus treatments rely on steroids and immunosuppressants that only manage symptoms and require lifelong use—there is no cure. Even newer biological medications don't completely eliminate the faulty immune cells causing lupus, so disease often returns when treatment stops. This trial exists to see whether this new treatment can provide a more lasting solution for people whose lupus hasn't improved despite multiple standard medications.
