Using drones to deliver life-saving heart devices to homes

This is a proof-of-concept study testing whether drones can deliver automated external defibrillators (AEDs—portable devices that deliver an electric shock to restart a stopped heart) to homes during a cardiac emergency. Researchers want to see if this new delivery method could help save lives by getting life-saving devices to people much faster than traditional methods.

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency, and survival chances improve dramatically when an AED is used within minutes. Most cardiac arrests happen at home, but AEDs are rarely available there. This trial exists to explore whether drone delivery could bridge that gap and save more lives by getting AEDs to people's homes before ambulance crews arrive.
