Measuring Muscle Loss in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients

This study is looking at muscle loss — a common but often overlooked problem in people with inflammatory bowel disease like Crohn's disease. Researchers want to test whether ultrasound (the same imaging used during pregnancy) can reliably measure muscle size and strength, compared to CT scans that doctors may have already done for your care.

People with inflammatory bowel disease often lose muscle mass because of chronic inflammation, poor nutrition, and the effects of treatment. Right now, doctors use CT scans to measure this muscle loss, but CT scans expose you to radiation and aren't available for quick check-ups. This study aims to see if ultrasound — which is safe, radiation-free, and easy to repeat — could be a better everyday tool to track muscle changes.
