Understanding lung tissue changes in severe lung pressure disease

This research study is looking for specific patterns in lung tissue and blood that could help doctors better understand pulmonary hypertension—a serious condition where pressure builds up in the blood vessels of the lungs—in people with chronic lung diseases like COPD or pulmonary fibrosis. Researchers will collect blood samples and, for some participants, lung tissue from transplant surgery to search for biological fingerprints that show when and how the disease develops.

Doctors know that lung tissue undergoes changes in people with pulmonary hypertension, but we don't fully understand these changes or how to predict which patients will develop the most severe forms of the disease. This study aims to find measurable biological markers in blood and tissue that could help doctors identify, diagnose, and better predict the course of the disease in different patients.
