Robot-Assisted Knee Replacement: Two Alignment Approaches and Implant Types

Not a traditional drug trial — this study doesn't follow the standard phase structure.

What is this trial?

This study compares two different surgical techniques for robot-assisted knee replacement surgery, combined with two different types of artificial knee implants. Researchers want to learn which combinations work best for patients by tracking how you feel and how well your knee functions after surgery.

Knee replacement surgery can be done in different ways, and doctors aren't yet sure which combination of surgical approach and implant type gives patients the best results. This study will help answer that question so future patients get the treatment that works best for them.

Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

  • you have been diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis (wear and tear of the knee) and need surgery
  • you are scheduled to have robot-assisted knee replacement surgery using the VELYS system
  • you are able to give informed consent and understand what the study involves
  • you are willing to complete questionnaires about how you feel and how your knee is working after surgery
  • you can attend follow-up visits before and after your surgery

You likely don't qualify if…

  • you are having knee replacement surgery to replace a previously replaced knee (revision surgery)
  • you have an active infection in or around your knee
  • you cannot reliably attend follow-up appointments and assessments
  • you have serious health conditions that could make surgery risky or interfere with the study

What participation looks like

You will undergo robot-assisted knee replacement surgery at Singapore General Hospital. Before surgery, you'll complete questionnaires about your knee and overall health. Your surgeon will decide which surgical alignment technique is best for you, and then you'll be randomly assigned to one of two implant types. After surgery, you'll attend follow-up visits where doctors will examine your knee and ask you to complete questionnaires about your pain, function, and quality of life at set time points.
