Comparing lymph node surgery approaches after chemotherapy for aggressive breast cancers

This is a research study that examines medical records from patients with HER2-positive or triple-negative breast cancer who received chemotherapy before surgery. Researchers want to understand whether it is safe to skip removing all the lymph nodes under the arm in patients who still have cancer in some lymph nodes after chemotherapy, or whether additional lymph node removal or radiation is necessary.

Current treatment guidelines are unclear about the best approach for patients whose lymph nodes still contain cancer after chemotherapy. By studying what happened to patients who had different treatments, researchers hope to give clearer guidance to doctors and patients about which approach—removing all lymph nodes, giving radiation, or doing nothing extra—is safest and works best.
