Testing a diabetes medication to protect heart nerves

This trial is testing whether two medications called semaglutide and polyethylene glycol loxenatide can help people with type 2 diabetes who have nerve damage affecting their heart. These medications are already used to help control blood sugar, but researchers want to see if they can also repair or prevent the heart nerve damage that sometimes occurs in diabetes. The study will compare people who receive the medication along with standard diabetes care against those who receive standard care alone.

Heart nerve damage in diabetes can cause serious problems like irregular heartbeats, dangerously low blood pressure, and in severe cases, heart attacks. While this medication is known to help control blood sugar, doctors want to understand if it can also protect or heal the heart nerves, which would be an important additional benefit.
