How pregnancy affects rare nerve and immune diseases

This is a long-term study designed to help doctors better understand how rare nerve and immune diseases—such as neuromyelitis optica, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune encephalitis, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, and MOGAD—affect women who are planning to become pregnant or are already pregnant. Researchers will collect detailed information about your symptoms, treatments, blood work, and brain imaging over five years (and potentially up to ten years) to learn how these conditions change during pregnancy and after delivery.

These rare nerve and immune diseases are more common in women of childbearing age, and they can affect fertility and pregnancy outcomes. Doctors need more detailed information about how best to manage these conditions safely during pregnancy to protect both mother and baby.
