Heart health five years after inflammatory syndrome in children

This study is following up on children and young adults who were hospitalized with MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children) around 5 years ago. The researchers want to understand whether the heart and blood vessels have any lasting changes from this serious inflammatory illness, even though most patients recovered well after treatment. They will compare heart health in people who had MIS-C to healthy peers of the same age and sex.

When children had MIS-C during the pandemic, many developed heart problems during the acute illness, but most improved with treatment. However, previous follow-up at 2 years showed some hidden heart and blood vessel changes that shouldn't have been there. This study will check whether those changes are still present 5 years later, to better understand the long-term effects of this condition.
