Blood protein levels and bone fragility risk in postmenopausal women

Researchers want to understand whether a blood protein called lumican might help identify women at higher risk of broken bones from fragility. This study will measure lumican levels in postmenopausal women and compare those levels to bone density, strength, and fracture history. The goal is to see if lumican could be a useful additional tool—beyond standard bone density scans—to predict who is most vulnerable to fractures.

Standard bone density tests don't catch all women who are at risk for fragility fractures. Researchers believe measuring this blood protein might reveal hidden fragility risk that current tests miss, helping doctors better identify and protect vulnerable patients.
