What is this trial?

This is a preliminary study testing a pulsed electric field ablation system as a new treatment for adults with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar levels have not improved enough with medications alone. The treatment uses electrical pulses to help control blood sugar. Researchers will measure how well this treatment works and how safe it is over a 6-month to 12-month period.

Many people with type 2 diabetes take two or three medications but still struggle to keep their blood sugar at healthy levels. This trial exists to explore whether this new electrical treatment could help people whose diabetes is not well controlled by drugs alone.

Do you qualify?

You likely qualify if…

you are between 18 and 70 years old
you have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months
your blood sugar control remains inadequate despite taking 2–3 oral diabetes medications for at least 12 weeks, or lifestyle changes haven't been enough
your HbA1c (a measure of average blood sugar) is between 7.5% and 10.5%
your BMI is between 27 and 40 kg/m²
your weight has been stable (changed less than 5%) in the past 5 weeks

You likely don't qualify if…

you have type 1 diabetes or have used insulin for more than one month in the past two years
you are currently taking GLP-1 medications or dual GLP-1/GIP agonists
you have had severe low blood sugar episodes requiring help from another person within the past 6 months
you have had previous gastric surgery (such as gastric bypass) or serious digestive tract problems that would prevent this device from passing safely
you have inflammatory bowel disease, a history of pancreatitis, or active liver disease

What participation looks like

You would receive the pulsed electric field ablation treatment as an outpatient procedure. Your blood sugar control, weight, and overall health would be monitored at follow-up visits at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after treatment. You would need to keep taking your current diabetes medications at the same dose throughout the study, and you'll have blood tests to measure how well your blood sugar is being controlled over time.
