Studying bacteria in pancreatic tissue to improve pancreatic disease diagnosis

Researchers at Ruijin Hospital in Shanghai are studying the bacteria and microorganisms that live in pancreatic tissue from patients with different pancreatic diseases—including pancreatic cancer, chronic pancreatitis, and other conditions. By analyzing tissue samples that were already removed during surgery, they want to understand how bacteria differ between disease types and whether these differences could help doctors diagnose and treat pancreatic diseases better in the future.

Pancreatic diseases are serious and often hard to catch early. Doctors don't yet fully understand whether the bacteria naturally living in the pancreas might play a role in how these diseases develop or progress. This study could reveal new clues that lead to earlier detection and better treatment options.
